Saftu to host summit to discuss poverty, unemployment

The South African Federation of Trade Unions (Saftu) is set to host summit to discuss the rising unemployment and poverty in the country.

The federation says the summit, dubbed the Working Class Summit, is a response to its campaign against the national minimum wage.

The National Assembly (NA) passed the National Minimum Wage Bill at the end of May 2018.

The national minimum wage is R20 for each regular hour worked.

Saftu's Patrick Craven says the government doesn’t seem able to solve the problems of unemployment and poverty.

"More and more people are feeling left out of the important decision and above all the share of the wealth of the country," says Craven.

Craven adds more than a hundred unions will attend the summit.
