Sahpra authorises Sinovac, but with conditions
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (Sahpra) has authorised the use of China’s Sinovac vaccine, known as the Coronavac, but only with conditions.
The Regulatory Authority released a statement on Saturday morning stating that part of the vaccine’s conditions is that the applicant is required to submit the final results of ongoing clinical studies.
Coronavac will now join the list of approved vaccines to be used in the country to fight against the deadly Covid-19 virus which has claimed the lives of over 60 000 people in South Africa.
Over three million people have now been inoculated against Covid-19.

Registration has now been opened for those who are over 50 years old.
The EFF has been vocal in calling for the Chinese vaccine to be approved for use in South Africa.
The party came under fire for staging a march with scores of supporters to Sahpra’s offices, despite warnings from government to keep gatherings at bay while the country is faced with a relentless third wave of Covid-19 infections.
