SAHRC asks for written submissions in Cornwall Hill racism probe

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) has asked for written submissions as it continues its probe into allegations of racism at Cornwall Hill College in Irene.

The commission launched an investigation into the environment and pupils’ experiences at the school earlier this year.
The probe came after predominately black pupils and their parents staged a protest at the school to complain about a lack of transformation.
The school has invited the commission to review its policies, procedures, and code of conduct for pupils.
The commission has given a deadline of September for submissions.
"The investigation shall inquire into, making findings, report on and make recommendations concerning allegations of racism, lack of diversity and transformation at the College, taking into consideration the Constitution and other relevant legislation, policies and guidelines,” it said in a statement.
"Members of the school management, Board of Directors, pupils (former and current), parents, staff and interested parties are invited to make written submissions to the commission in order to fully address the issues of investigation.”
