The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) is investigating its acting Head of Legal, Buang Jones, over his comments relating to Springbok player, Eben Etzebeth.

The SAHRC filed papers last week at the Equality Court to have Etzebeth charged over an alleged racist incident and attack on a homeless man in Langebaan in the Cape.

The alleged incident took place only weeks before Etzebeth was set to board a plane for the Rugby World Cup in Japan.

Jones visited Langebaan in the wake of the incident and told community members, among others,  that the commission did not care about the offender's prominence or standing in society and that Etzebeth "always got away" with such conduct.

The Freedom Front Plus (FF+) responded by saying the SAHRC was selective in its prosecution.

The Afrikanerbond lodged a complaint with the SAHRC over Jones, saying "his statements and accusations are inflammatory and is adding fuel to the accusations of racism."

This has now led to Jones being removed from the investigation, according to the Afriaknerbond's Jan Bosman
