The South African Human Rights Commission says it has managed to locate the person responsible for the controversial Tracy Zille account on Twitter.
The account, with 48 000 followers, has been in the spotlight for its race-baiting tweets.
The commission is investigating a charge of hate speech and has referred the matter to the Equality Court.
The commission’s Chris Nissen says the commission received a complaint, which promoted an investigation.

"And we employed the service of a tracing agent and that tracing agent provided us with evidence that connects us with the person who owns the account.”
Nissen, however, could not confirm reports that an EFF councillor is responsible for the account.
He says the commission has not served the owner with the charges.
"The investigation is in a very sensitive state and the matter has been referred to the Equality Court.
"What we have investigated and managed to find is that this borders on hate speech and the Equality Court is best to deal with the hate speech."
