Civil
Rights organisation #NotInMyName says the South African Humans Right Commission
(SAHRC) have sent a letter to
South African Football Association (SAFA)
president Danny Jordaan on rape allegations made against him.
Jennifer Ferguson claims Jordaan raped her at a Gqeberha hotel room some 30 years ago.
She opened a rape case against him in 2018.
#NotInMyName secretary-general Themba Masango says Jordaan needs to come clean.
“All Ms Ferguson wants is for Mr Jordaan to acknowledge what he did to her and we as South Africans deserve to know the truth. Ms Ferguson made it clear that she had tried in vain to engage Mr Jordaan for a mediation process. She is seeking closure.”
Masango says hopefully Jordaan will engage with commission given his profile in the country.
“Mr Jordaan, as someone who occupies a very important and influential position in society, must afford the South African Human Rights Commission the engagement and accountability expected of him.”
