SAHRC unhappy with Hammanskraal water quality
The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) has expressed its displeasure over what it has described as the undrinkable water in Hammanskraal.
On Tuesday, the commission conducted a fact-finding visit to the Temba Water Purification Plant and Rooiwal WasteWater Treatment Work in Tshwane.
Spokesperson Buang Jones says the water in Hammanskraal is still not safe for residents to drink.
“The commission received full cooperation from the city and the Department of Water and Sanitation. The commission is still not pleased with the fact that residents of Hammanskraal still have to drink water that is unsafe for human consumption.”
Residents in Hammanskraal have been struggling for years for access to clean drinking water.

The Democratic Alliance in the city has based this failure on the previous African National Congress (ANC) administration.
DA Chief of Staff in the City of Tshwane Jordan Griffiths says a total of R300 million has been allocated to treat Rooiwal WasteWater.
“This is why the allocation of 300 million rand was made under the (Solly) Msimanga administration which will be funded in multiple phases and budgetary years. It’s one of the single biggest budgetary allocations in the City.
“Phase one of this work is underway and is standing at about 58% completion with expected finalisation in October 2022.”
The SAHRC says it will continue to monitor the water treatment in Tshwane.
