Sama: South Africans must continue to be vigilant, protect themselves against Covid-19
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
The South African Medical Association (Sama) says South Africans must not be fooled into thinking that the Covid-19 pandemic is a thing of the past.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced a move to lockdown level 1 on Wednesday evening after the country spent six months under strict Covid-19 restrictions.
Sama chairperson Angelique Coetzee says while the move to ease the lockdown further comes at the right time, it’s important for everyone to continue to observe all health and safety measures.
"Covid-19 is still with us, and there will still be people who remain in danger of contracting it. Despite the good recovery rates, we must be vigilant and protect ourselves as best we can.
"While our economy opens as the lockdown eases, we must also accept that there is no vaccine and no cure for the disease. It is our collective responsibility to ensure we continue taking preventative measures to curb its spread."
