Samwu alarmed by municipal audit report

The South African Municipal Workers Unions (Samwu) has expressed concern over the outcomes of the local government audit.
The Auditor-General, Kimi Makwetu, announced the latest results in Pretoria on Wednesday.
"The AG report is very alarming in the manner in which it came out cause it shows a regress of municipalities in terms of the audit, which means there's too much money on fruitless expenditure, wasteful expenditure, irregular expenditures," says Samwu general-secretary Koena Ramotlou.

The report showed a growing negative trend with only 18 municipalities out of 257 receiving clean audits in the 2017/18 financial year.
"In fact the AG is sharply raising the issue of the VBS in his report, particularly in Limpopo."
Samwu has called on the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma to act swiftly.
