Sanco: ‘Ghost premier’ sees Limpopo remain breeding ground for corruption, maladministration

The South African National Civic Organization (Sanco) in Limpopo says the province has become a breeding ground for corruption and maladministration.

It has at the same time labelled Stan Mathabatha as “a ghost premier”.

The organisation was reacted to the arrests of 13 officials by the Hawks on Monday.

The arrested officials include a mayor and company directors at the Mogalakwena Municipal offices in Limpopo.

Sanco deputy provincial secretary Sipho Dikgale says the corruption is an indictment of the premier.

“These faint-hearted individuals did not work for the welfare of people of Mogalakwena, never cared to empower masses at grass-root levels, stalled the progress of erstwhile administration, completely ignored the basic service delivery needs of the communities and failed to generate employment for the youth, and even betrayed the ANC manifesto.”

Dikgale says while they welcome the arrest, it is nothing to celebrate.

“No convictions have taken place. We will only rejoice once all corrupt elements, including the VBS fraudsters, are behind bars.

“Sanco remains concerned that the ghost premier has said nothing about the arrest of the former executive political head of the municipality under whose watch all these missteps took place.”
