SANDF allows South Africans ‘to sleep peacefully at night’ - Ramaphosa
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
President Cyril Ramaphosa says South Africans are able to sleep at night knowing the South African National Defence Force is keeping the country safe.

Ramaphosa presided over the National Armed Forces Day in Mbombela on Monday.
“We are also grateful to our soldiers who are conducting border safeguarding operations daily. Our soldiers, men, and women put their lives on the line to ensure that peace and stability prevail in our country and outside our borders, they make sure that South Africans can retire in peace at night. Knowing that the country is safe.”
Ramaphosa has admitted the South African National Defence Force is facing numerous challenges.
“We know that the SANDF is facing many challenges. Our military, like any other organ of our state, has had to conduct its substantial operations in the face of extremely limited resources and a growing catalogue of commitments.
“I commend the leadership of our military and all members of our armed force for fulfilling their responsibilities even as we grapple with funding challenges.”
The president also paid tribute to 31-year-old Corporal Tebogo Edwin Radebe from Paul Roux in the Free State, who was killed last year in the SADC mission Mozambique.
“We remember all those soldiers who fallen in the line of duty in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic, and Sudan. Their deaths remind us that our freedom, our way of life, and the peace we enjoy as a country does come at a price.”
