SANDF gunman in police custody

KwaZulu Natal police say the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) soldier who allegedly have shot and killed a woman has handed himself over to authorities.

The soldier allegedly shot a woman and wounded three other people and in Inanda and Ntuzuma, north of Durban, earlier this week.


The 25 year-old suspect had been on the run since the shooting spree on Tuesday.  He handed himself over to police last night.


Police spokesperson Jay Naicker says the soldier is due to appear in court next week on charges of murder, attempted murder and kidnapping.


"The 25 year-old suspect was handed over by his lawyer at the Inanda Police Station at 7.00pm last night. The firearm which was used in the crime was also handed over to the police and will form part of the investigation," says Naicker.
