SANDF helicopter shot at in DRC
Updated | By Olivia Phalaetsile
Lieutenant Colonel Piet Paxton says the incident took place in the far east of Congo during a routine visit by United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the DRC (Monusco) force commander Lieutenant General Santos Cruz.
"Several shots were fired from a small calibre weapon while it was flying between Beni and Bunia. One bullet hit the fuel tank causing a minor leak," he says.
Paxton says the pilot managed to fly safely out of danger and landed at the Mavivi Airport in Beni.
Nobody was injured.
Monusco is investigating the incident.
