Sandton residents set to spend Thursday, Friday without water

Rand Water and Johannesburg Water have warned Sandton residents of a 20-hour maintenance project that will see taps running dry for almost a day.

Durban residents are fuming about a water outage that affected large parts of the city related to an eThekwini municipality labour dispute that has disrupted services.

The maintenance work is expected to start on Thursday at 5 pm and is scheduled to last until Friday at 1 pm.

Rand Water spokesperson Makenosi Maroo says the reason for the emergency repair is to urgently replace an isolating valve.

The Sandton meter provides water to parts of Johannesburg’s northern areas.

Some of the reservoirs to be affected include Bryanston Reservoir, Bryanston Tower, Illovo Reservoir, Illovo Tower, Morningside Reservoir, Linbro Park Reservoir, Marlboro Reservoir, Linbro Park and Marlboro direct feeds.

"Johannesburg Water commits to do everything within its powers to ensure that their reservoirs that are supplied from the Sandton meter are filled to maximum capacity before the maintenance to minimise supply interruptions.

"Customers in high-lying areas may experience low to no pressure during the maintenance period; alternative water supply will be provided should it be necessary."
