Sandton water systems recovering
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Johannesburg Water says the water systems feeding Sandton is now showing signs of recovering, after this week’s high demand caused by the persistent heatwave.
The entity says the intervention was undertaken in agreement with utility Rand Water to mitigate a possible system collapse.
The Sandton system is large and complex and has recently been affected by reduced incoming supply.
The high demand has resulted in both Rand Water and Johannesburg burg Water reservoirs reaching low levels of capacity.
However, Joburg Water spokesperson Nombuso Shabalala says technical teams have restored supply to the Sandton system.
"The Sandton system is showing signs of recovery following operations by Rand Water and Johannesburg Water technical teams on Friday evening.
"Residents in the Sandton supply zone should start noticing water supply improve throughout the day.
"However, the Illovo reservoir and tower being the highest and furthest in terms of the network, its recovery is slower than the other Sandton systems."
