The South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) said Outa's report on the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project, which was released in February, is inaccurate and misleading.

Sanral briefed the media on Tuesday morning in light of the scathing Outa report that claimed there was an over expenditure of more than 300%, something Sanral denies.

In Outa's report it made use of 11 case studies to gage the average per kilometre pricing, and making use of this average, the anti-etolling group found that Sanral overpaid for the improvement project by 321%.

Sanral denied this and said Outa's conclusions were faulty.

It said, in some cases, Outa had the distance of roads wrong, in other cases they confused millions with billions

Sanral CEO Nazir Alli said there were a numbers of errors in the report and questioned whether they were genuine or deliberate.

"When you confuse a simple, basic unit of measurement - a million with a billion - there is a huge problem with that," Alli said.
