Authorities in Polokwane are on the hunt for an unknown number of suspects who gunned down the chairperson of South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) on Sunday.
Police spokesperson Motlafela Mojapelo says the body of 53-year-old Monageng Solomon Ledwaba was found in his car.
“The 53-year-old’s bullet riddled body was discovered inside his vehicle at the Seshego Circle Center yesterday, 30 January 2022 at about 17:20.”
Mojapelo says Ledwaba was parked on the side of the road when he was shot.
“Preliminary police investigations revealed that the victim was sitting in his parked motor vehicle next to the traffic lights behind the Seshego Circle Center when an unknown number of assailants approached in a white Toyota Fortuner without registration numbers and shot him several times before fleeing the scene.”
The motive for the killing is unknown but police believe it could be linked to taxi violence.
