Santaco, Mbalula to meet again on Thursday

The South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) says Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula has promised to discuss issues affecting the sector with the coronavirus command council this week.
The leadership of Santaco met with Mbalula on Monday to discuss the financial implication of the lockdown on the taxi industry.

This comes after the body ordered taxi drivers to fill their vehicles to 100% capacity rather than the 70% prescribed in the lockdown regulations.
Santaco spokesperson Thabisho Molelekwa says the taxi industry is under immense financial strain.
“We are confident that we will find a speedy resolution to the impasse and both parties have made commitments and it is our intention that he is able to achieve the objectives as far as transport is concerned.
“We have also agreed that the minister will expedite the attention of the national command council regarding issues relating to the taxi industry.”
Mbalula is expected to provide feedback to Santaco at a meeting between the two parties on Thursday.
