Sardines headed north - KZN Sharks Board
The KZN Sharks Board says large sardine shoals have started moving up the coastline from their previous location of Port Saint Johns.
The board has been continuously tracking their movements since the annual run got underway.
The annual fish migration draws scores of netters as well as some of nature's attractions like whales and dolphins.
KZN Sharks Board's Wayne Harrison says right now the fish are around uMthwalume and are expected to eventually head north.
"We've got massive sardines still heading up north but interestingly we noted that in the uMthwalume area the sardines shoals were heading down south.
Harrison warns that from around Scottburgh heading south, there are no shark nets and bathing is largely prohibited due to high volume of sharks attracted by the sardines.
"From Scottburgh south-wards, there's no shark safety gear in the water, bathing has been banned. Bathers should be cautious."
