Sars demands ANC pay R102m tax bill in 10 days
Updated | By Nokukhanya N Mntambo
The taxman has come knocking at Luthuli House demanding the African National Congress (ANC) settle its massive tax bill.
The South African Revenue Service (Sars) has given the governing party 10 days to pay more than R102 million in tax debt.
The bill includes employees' tax, UIF and the Skills Development Levy.
Jacaranda FM News is in possession of a letter to the ANC, threatening to attach and sell its assets if it fails to oblige to the demand.
The High Court in Pretoria ruled in favour of Sars in December last year after the ANC initially failed to comply with a demand dated October 2021.
This will likely compound to the party's already mounting financial battles after publicly admitting to being cash-strapped.
In the build-up to local government elections last year, staff at the party's headquarters in Johannesburg downed tools over unpaid salaries.
The dispute is believed to have been settled earlier this year, with a few outstanding issues.
