SARS offering free WiFi in bid to push citizens to e-filing

Edward Kieswetter announced the commencement of this year's filing season for personal income tax as 1 August. However, e-filing returns will be open from 1 July.
The South African Revenue Service (SARS) will be offering citizens free WiFi at its branches in a bid to push taxpayers towards e-filing.
On Tuesday SARS Commissioner Edward Kieswetter announced the commencement of this year's filing season for personal income tax as 1 August.
However, e-filing returns will be open from 1 July.
Kieswetter said SARS's digital tools have been further improved with, among others the uploading fo documents via mobile devices being enabled this year in order to make the returning of tax returns easier.
In addition, the ceiling for those who are compelled to file tax returns has been raised to R500,000 income per year from R300,000, provided they don't have "additional complications" like medical aid, travel, or pension deductions.
