SA’s Covid-19 deaths climb to over 57 000

The Covid-19 related death toll in South Africa has reached 57 063, amid concern over the impact of rising cases and the third wave gripping some provinces.

In his latest report, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize confirmed that 89 people succumbed to Covid-19.
“Eastern Cape 1, Free State 23, Gauteng 25, Kwa-Zulu Natal 1, Limpopo 17, Mpumalanga 0, North West 0, Northern Cape 4 and Western Cape 18 which brings the total to 57 063 deaths.
We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the health care workers who treated the deceased patients,” says Mkhize.
South Africa has recorded 3 285 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the country’s total identified cases to 1 699 849.
The recovery rate has shown another decrease – to 93,0%
On the vaccine front, 1,350,245 people have been vaccinated.
