SA’s daily coronavirus cases see higher second wave spike

South Africa has recorded over 8 000 new Covid-19 cases in just one day.
Statistics released by Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize show that 8166 more cases were reported in the 24 hours leading up to Thursday evening.
Mkhize says there is “clear evidence of an exponential rise in transmissions and this is a cause for serious concern”.
The latest increase brings the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases to 836 764.

A further 173 related deaths were also reported - with the Eastern Cape recording 90 fatalities and the Western Cape reporting 52.
KwaZulu-Natal confirmed 10 fatalities.
The total number of Covid-19 fatalities in the country now stands at 22 747.
