SA's first smartphone plant launched in KZN
Updated | By Lindiwe Mpanza
President Cyril Ramaphosa has opened a new smartphone manufacturing plant in Durban.

It will manufacture the Mara phone, which is described by the Rwandan-based Mara Group as the first smartphone made in Africa.
The group released two smartphones earlier this week.
Founder and CEO of the Mara Group Ashish Thakkar, who made a pledge at last year’s investment summit, has already pumped hundreds of millions of rands into the Durban plant.
Ramaphosa said the plant is expected to create more than 1500 job opportunities.
The plant is set to produce just over 1.2 million smartphone handsets annually.
