The social security agency has suspended close to 2 800 beneficiary accounts.

Spokesperson Paseka Letatsi says the step was taken after Sassa became aware of fraudulent activities taking place on some accounts.

He urged the affected beneficiaries to visit the nearest Sassa branch or Post Office.

“We can safely say it’s an organisation. We have identified the culprits. We are working together with the banking sector. This matter will be taken to the law enforcement agencies so that those who are responsible for taking money from the elderly can be locked up.”
