SAWS: Possible spring thunderstorms in some parts of country

The South African Weather Service has predicted possible first spring thunderstorms over parts of Gauteng, North West, Free State, and the Eastern Highveld.

Forecaster Lulama Pheme says there is only a 30% chance of thunderstorms for Tuesday going into Wednesday.


"There is a cold front that is approaching today, expected to make landfall over the South Western part of the country and we are expecting a 30% chance of showers and thundershowers over the  south western part of the country.


There is also a 30% chance of showers over the eastern parts of the North Werst province, Gauteng as well as the north eastern parts of Free State and the Highveld of Mpumalanga.


"There is a small chance that will be later more in the evening expected to spread to Wednesday morning, it will go to the south eastern parts of Limpopo, as well as the north eastern parts of Mpumalanga," says Pheme.


 Pheme says parts of the country should also expect warmer weather conditions.


"The temperatures are improving significantly today for the north eastern parts of the country, Limpopo we are expecting areas with some hot conditions.


"The same applies to the Northern parts of Gauteng, temperatures will go up to 32 °C."
