SCA wants to hear oral arguments in Zuma's Spy Tapes appeal

The Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) on Wednesday said it wants President Jacob Zuma's lawyers to argue in an open court for the right to appeal the spy tapes ruling.

Last week, the Constitutional Court said it would not hear the National Prosecuting Authority's appeal at this stage.

This comes after the North Gauteng High Court ruled that the 2009 decision to withdraw 783 fraud and corruption charges against President Zuma was irrational and was set aside.

A ruling by the SCA was expected today, but has given the President's legal team a month to submit five additional copies of the application for leave to appeal in preparation of their appearance in court.

The DA leaders Mmusi Maimane has welcomed the SCA's decision.

"The High Court also denied leave to appeal on the basis that President Zuma's appeal would have no prospect of success. We still agree with this view, and we are very confident that the SCA will come to the same conclusion once it has heard oral arguments," Maimane said.
