Schweizer-Reneke school: Picture not a reflection of character
Updated | By Sinethemba Madolo
Laerskool Schweizer-Reneke in North West says the picture showing children being racially segregated in class is not a true reflection of the school.
On the photo - which was taken by a parent and was posted on Twitter on Wednesday - black and white learners in a Grade R class are sitting in two groups at separate tables.
The teacher responsible for the separation has since been suspended.
"Schweizer-Reneke Primary School is proud of its integrated character. The school's ethos is built on inclusivity as a reflection of the broader South African society," says Jozeph du Plessis, chairperson of the school's governing body.

Du Plessis says the picture shows a moment that happened in class, adding that the school does not condone racism.
"The governing body does not condone any distinction based on race. Learners from different backgrounds, including race, religion and language, are not merely accommodated but are fully integrated in all aspects of the school environment."
Du Plessis says the school will support its staff when it comes to learning and implementing integration in classrooms.
"The governing body will provide support and training where areas lacking in integration are identified. The governing body is committed to integration and to make a positive contribution to society. We will make sure that the necessary resources are available and that staff members have access to information and training."
