Second deadly crash on N1 within 24 hours

Eight people have died in a multi-vehicle pileup on the N1 in Limpopo on Friday.

It is the second major crash on this route in less than 24 hours.
Provincial police say the pileup happened on the N1 south in Mookgopong near Modimolle.
Police spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe says a truck was involved in the crash.

"It is alleged that three cars and a truck collided during a pile-up where five occupants of a double cab died instantly and the other three who died were passengers in other cars," he says.
Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
The cause of the crash is yet to be determined.

On Thursday night, 12 people died in a crash on the N1 south in Botlokwa.
The provincial health department says a taxi hit a donkey and then crashed into a truck.
Limpopo transport spokesperson Allen Matsina says 11 people died on the scene.
The twelfth victim died in hospital.
