Second earth tremor this year hits Gauteng
The Council for Geoscience has confirmed that a second tremor in less than two weeks hit the south of Johannesburg on Tuesday evening.
The Council says the tremor that was felt on Tuesday evening was located in Soweto and hit at about 8:54pm.
"The preliminary results show that the earthquake registered a local magnitude of approximately 3.4, as recorded by the South African Seismograph Network (SANSN)," says the Council’s spokesperson Mahlatse Mononela.
It was felt as far as the West Rand.
There have been no reports of injuries or damage to property.
In January, a tremor registered a local magnitude of approximately 2.5.
The Council has once again encouraged the public to record their experiences using the available online questionnaire.
