The woman was based at the Inanda Seminary Marking Centre in Durban where Maths Literacy papers are being graded.
It’s understood she arrived at the centre on January 6 and was hospitalised by the 7th.
Departmental spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi says she succumbed to the disease on Monday.
"In the morning she reported to be ill, she then passed on at the hospital. The education department passes on their condolences to the bereaved family and the entire department.”
It follows another coronavirus-related death of a marker in Estcourt over the weekend.
Nine others were then placed under isolation in Estcourt.
The South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) has called for the rapid testing of teachers marking matric exam papers in the province.
