Second matric final exam paper leak hits Education Department
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The Council of Education Ministers (CEM) held an urgent meeting yesterday following the leak of a second final exam paper in one week.

According to the Department of Basic Education, the Physics Paper 2 was circulated hours before it was written on Monday morning.
Basic Education Minister Angie Mothsekga confirmed the latest security breach in a statement released late on Monday night.
"It is unfortunate that people continue to be involved in something like this even though the consequences can be dire. We condemn in the strongest terms the conduct of persons who undermine the integrity of the examination because it causes untold stress on the learners who are looking forward to exiting the schooling system with a pass from an honest examination, not one associated with cheating,” says Motshekga.
The CEM considered the implications of the latest developments during their meeting.

Last week, the Maths Paper 2 was spread on a Whatsapp group hours before it was written and it has since been established that Grade 12s across 8 of the 9 provinces saw it.
The Hawks were subsequently roped in to investigate the paper leak.
Motshekga says investigations for that paper leak are at an advanced stage.
“The investigations are at an advanced stage and details on the progress of the probe will be made public at the right time while areas of possible weakness have been identified.”
