Second North West community without water: Agang
A second community in the North West was without water, Agang SA said on Sunday.
Jericho community in the Madibeng municipality has been without water since last year, Agang SA coordinator Victor Molefe said.
The residents depended on the bulk water system for water supply.
Molefe said residents held a meeting with premier Thandi Modise in June but there was still no water in Jericho.
The premier's spokesman Lesiba Kgwele said interventions were in place to address the water shortage in the area.
Modise had signed a memorandum of understanding with the water affairs minister and all municipalities which were water scarce in the province.
The memorandum would ensure that water was supplied, he said.
"Jericho community has been prioritised for the provision of water.
"There is a clear project to address the shortage of water which would cost about R2 billion," Kgwele said.
Residents of Mothutlung, near Brits, in the North West also had no water for about two weeks.
Jericho was about 40 kilometres from Mothutlung.
Two protesters were shot dead, allegedly by police, on Monday during a protest over the water situation in Mothutlung.
Another man died after he allegedly fell out of a moving Nyala police armoured vehicle in a bid to escape on Tuesday.
Molefe said residents of Jericho also reported the water shortage to the presidential hotline.
They also marched to the president's office in November to hand over a memorandum.
Presidency spokesman Mac Maharaj could not immediately comment.
