Second team of SA medical volunteers head for Ebola-hit Sierra Leone
Updated | By Olivia Phalaetsile

The deployment of volunteers forms part of the African Union Support Ebola Outbreak in West Africa’s mission.
A total of 20 nurses and three paramedics are expected to depart from Johannesburg on Friday.
Right to Care COO Kurt Firnhaber says the health practitioners will be in the Ebola stricken country for six months.
“They will be in Sierra Leone to help finalise the end of the Ebola disease. We are hoping they could close this out,” he said.
Firnhaber says the first team which arrived in Sierra Leone at the end of January is doing well.
“They are all working as a team from one facility and have enjoyed the challenge. They have made a great impact in that area,” Firnhaber said.
So far 835 personnel have been deployed by the ASWEOWA in West Africa to reduce new infections and Ebola-related deaths.
