The Justice, Crime Prevention and Security (JCPS) Cluster has expressed concern over the ongoing violent protests in North West.

Protests flared up in several parts of the province last week with residents calling for the resignation of Premier Supra Mahumapelo.

The premier is embroiled in allegations of corruption. Questions have also been raised over his links to the controversial Gupta family.

Protesting residents burnt down several buildings and looted shops belonging to foreign nationals.

The JCPS says there is no need for residents to break the law when raising their concerns.

"We wish to call upon everybody affected in the North West province to conduct themselves in a manner that does not infringe on other people’s rights and do that within the boundaries of the law," says the cluster’s Siphiwe Dlamini.

Dlamini warns those who loot shops and damage properties will face the full might of the law.

Police have confirmed that more than 100 people have been arrested on various charges since the protests first flared up.
