Security guard killed during Rand Ridge Mall robbery

Police spokesperson Balan Muthan says six suspects armed with two guns entered the premises and accosted the security guard.

 "At around 10:30 six suspects armed with two pistols entered the Rand Ridge Mall accosted the security guard and took him into the Pep stores. While in the Pep stores they robbed the Pep stores of R270 which was in the till and robbed a customer of her wedding ring."

Muthan says the guard was shot in the lower abdomen when the suspects saw him press the panic button.

"(They) fled the scene in a blue Toyota Corolla and white Hyundai. The security guard was stabilised on the scene by paramedics and en route to the hospital the security guard passed on."

Cases of business robbery, armed robbery and murder are being investigated.
