GTS was last year appointed or contracted by the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development to provide security services to the Commission, during the public hearings in Parktown.

In a statement, the Commission says it started asking questions following an articled in the City Press in July last year, that asked questions over the appointment of GTS despite the allegations of corruption against Bosasa.

“Following upon the City Press article, the Chairperson undertook to look into how it had come about that GTS was providing services to the Commission and indicated that the Commission would inform the public once it had been established how this had come about. In the meantime GTS was stopped from providing security services to the Commission until such investigation as had been undertaken had been completed,” reads the statement.

A forensic investigation was undertaken last year and has concluded that the necessary procurement procedures were not followed regarding GTS.

Chair of the Commission, Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, says GTS should not have been appointed or contracted or brought in to provide services to the Commission while those allegations remained unresolved.

“GTS is, as of now, no longer providing any services to the Commission and was asked to remove its equipment from the premises of the Commission. GTS is now taking steps to remove its equipment from the premises of the Commission.”

Justice and Correctional Services Minister, Michael Masutha, will brief the media on the Bosasa contracts and other irregular contracts within the Justice and Correctional Services portfolio on Monday.
