The African National Congress (ANC) in Mpumalanga has suspended one of its provincial executive committee (PEC) members after he was arrested for allegedly raping his daughters.
Acting provincial secretary Lindiwe Ntshalitshali says the member, who is also a former MEC, was arrested on Monday.
"We have reliable information that he was arrested this morning at his home for allegedly raping his two daughters and will appear in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court soon.

"The ANC takes these allegations extremely serious, as the president has characterised gender-based violence which includes rape as a pandemic which we should be struggling to defeat at all costs.”
She added that the man’s ANC membership has also been suspended until the conclusion of the criminal trial.
Mpumalanga police could not be reached for comment.
