The police in Gauteng have launched a manhunt for an unknown number of suspects who shot and killed a senior oral hygienist outside the Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto on Tuesday morning
The woman was on her way to work at Lillian Ngoyi community health centre when she was shot.
“It is reported that the victim was driving in Diepkloof, Soweto, when she was accosted by suspects who shot at her while inside the car. The deceased vehicle crashed into the streetlight pole and came to a halt. The victim was certified dead at the scene,” says Gauteng police spokesperson Mavela Masondo.
Meanwhile, the Gauteng Department of Health has appealed to the police to track down her killers.
“The news of this gruesome murder has been received with shock and deep sadness among fellow health workers. The MEC for Health and Wellness has condemned the incident and has implored law enforcement agencies to spare no effort to apprehend those behind this act,” says the department’s spokesperson Motalatale Modiba.
The motive for the killing is not yet known.
