Senzo Meyiwa's tombstone unveiled in KZN

The provincial government in KwaZulu-Natal and the South African Football Association (SAFA) have unveiled a tombstone at the grave of slain former Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa.

The tombstone was unveiled at Heroes Acre in Durban on Tuesday.
Meyiwa was shot and killed in October 2014 at the home of his girlfriend's mother.
Several members of the Bafana Bafana team, including coach Molefi Ntseki, attended the unveiling ceremony.
Fellow goalkeeper and international teammate Itumeleng Khune said it was heart-breaking to lose Senzo in 2014.
“We ended up ticking all the boxes and to lose him, it was heart-breaking, because we knew that we didn’t accomplish everything we set for ourselves.
“May your soul rest in peace my friend and I hope we get justice for you very soon.”
Senzo’s father Samuel Meyiwa died in 2019 after suffering stroke, with the family citing stress due to the death of his son as a contributory factor.
“Senzo’s father always said I do not want a tombstone. I know what happened to Senzo and somebody must get arrested for what happened to Senzo,” said SAFA president Danny Jordaan.
“Bafana needs to qualify for this Africa Cup of Nations and the World cup so that the hopes and dreams of Senzo can be realised. Let us make what Senzo has achieved a qualification of Afcon in 2015. When we look at that tombstone, we will remember his inspiration and hope and dreams he carried in his heart.”
Police believe that they have finally managed to crack the case after arresting five suspects last month.
