The workers are demanding that the provincial Department of Health pay their performance bonuses in full.

Nehawu's spokesperson Jacob Adams says, while department has paid performance bonuses, workers did not receive all the money due to them.

"The money they are supposed to pay is R164 million and the department is now paying R90 million, which is a shortfall of R74 million."

The department in the province has described the protest as “regrettable” and that Limpopo MEC of Health, Phophi Ramathuba, will be meeting with the unions on Tuesday.

"Even if there were issues that warranted protests, people should not disrupt the functioning of the hospital," says spokesperson Neil Shikwambana.

The department is working on restoring all functions of the hospital.

"We believe in no time that strike would be called off."
