Updated | By ecr and JacarandaFM News
Seven people were killed in a single-car crash near Umgeni Road on Tuesday morning.
While the cause of the smash is yet to be confirmed, reports from the scene indicate the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle.
The car then overturned on the flyover from the M19 joining the N2 north.
Rescue Care spokesperson Garrith Jamieson says seven people were declared dead on the scene.
"One was in a critical condition and was transported to a nearby hospital for the urgent care that they required. The scene is still active as SAPS and Metro are in attendance. They will be investigating exactly what lead up to the cause of the collision," says Jamieson.
Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula has sent his condolences to the bereaved and wished the injured a full recovery.
He said the light motor vehicle was heavily overloaded but assured that investigations into the cause of the crash are underway.
