The leaked audio of what is believed to be African National Congress (ANC) Treasurer-General, Paul Mashatile has the country abuzz.

Mashatile was recorded while addressing delegates at the Mining Indaba in Cape Town on Tuesday night.

That was amidst meetings in top ANC structures to try and secure an exit for President Jacob Zuma.

Here are 7 points highlighted by Mashatile

1. Good Governance

"We come from an era where people have been worried about state capture, corruption, mismanagement."

Mashatile assured the delegates there will be good governance.

"We will root out corruption and mismanagement. And we fully support the process of the state capture to sort the wrongdoing that has been happening.”

2. Economy recovery

Mashatile further reassured investors that the new leadership is committed to growing the economy to create new jobs.

He added for proper economic recovery to take place, corruption will be rooted out at SOEs.

"That is why you saw that intervention at Eskom. For the intervention at Eskom was not Zuma, it was us. We went to him and said him we want to change this."

Mashatile said Zuma understands that there is a new president and the buck stops at Luthuli House.

"Because we can't say to investors come invest in our country when in fact they can see things are not right."

Mashatile said sorting out state departments and SOEs is a priority for the new leadership of the ANC.

3. Managing the transition

Mashatile told the delegates that the new leadership under Ramaphosa have coined the term 'Managing the transition.'

He said in the meeting they held with Zuma, the president thought the term was a "strange word."

"We said to him... its handing power from you to Cyril. We are managing that."

Mashatile said the transition from President Nelson Mandela to Thabo Mbeki was easy.

"He [Zuma] thinks certain things should be done in a particular way, but Mbeki does them in a particular way and he gets irritated. So the tension grows faster."

Mashatile said it was at that time the NEC took a decision to recall him and the new leadership takes charge.

4. One centre of power

Mashatile said the NEC explained to Zuma on Sunday night that the party does not want two centers of power.

"Our view as the ANC is the sooner the president of the Republic sets down for the new leadership to take over, the better."

He said this would eliminate confusion among investors as to who to consult on investment policies.

5. Zuma refused to resign

Mashatile told the delegates President Zuma refused to resign following the Sunday night meeting with the top six.

"If the president doesn't want to resign voluntarily, we will recall him like we did we, Thabo Mbeki."

6. The ANC does not want an Impeachment or a motion of no confidence

Mashatile explained to delegates the NEC has to prepare for the 2019 election and the party is not willing to be embattled in impeachments and motions of no confidence.

"Yes, a motion of no confidence will affect President Zuma, impeachment personally. He is prepared to go through that route and we are not."

Mashatile further added the National Working Committee (NWC) came to a decision that Zuma should be recalled if he refuses to resign.

7. Ramaphosa will deliver the State of the Nation Address

“The one who is leaving can't give the message for the future.”
