Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo braced for heavy thunderstorms

The South African Weather Service has warned of severe thunderstorms over parts of Mpumalanga, Limpopo and Gauteng on Friday.

"From 18h00 right up to 20h00, we are issuing a watch for severe thunderstorms for the southern parts of the Limpopo province, over the northern and eastern parts of Gauteng province, over the Mpumalanga province," says forecaster Lulama Pheme.
The North West can also expect scattered showers on Saturday, while heavy rain is forecast for parts of Mpumalanga and Gauteng.

"Over the central interior of the North West, as well as the central Free State, we are expecting isolated showers and thundershowers tomorrow."
Pheme says temperatures will drop significantly for the eastern half of the country at the weekend.
"The rain will ease on Sunday. It will be the usual scattered and thundershowers."
