The city has called on residents to reduce water consumption due to power failures impacting Rand Water infrastructure.

In a statement on Sunday, the city said residents have exceeded water consumption by 15%.

Some areas in the city have been experiencing inconsistent water supply following a number of power failures and trips at Rand Water’s Vereeniging and Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plants as well as at the Palmiet, Eikenhof and Mapleton Booster Pumping Stations.

City spokesperson Selby Bokaba has urged residents to reduce consumption.

“Tshwane continues to observe low to no water supply from Rand Water in some of its areas.

“In light of this, residents are therefore urged to use water wisely and sparingly. Should residents fail to heed this call, the current water outages will worsen, resulting in more areas being affected.

“Reduction of water consumption will enable the system to stabilise and recover.”

Depleted reservoirs include parts of Garsfontein, Laudium, Murrayfield, Die Wilgers Hospital and surrounding areas.

Affected areas include Thatchfield and Olivenhoutsbosch.

“Other affected areas supplied directly from the Rand Water line include Thatchfield and Olievenhoutsbosch," says Bokaba.

“The affected regions are 1, 2,3,4, 6 and parts of 5. Water tankers will be deployed to the areas experiencing challenges of water supply.”
