Sexwale announces investigation into Trillian-Gupta link
Updated | By Slindelo Masikane
Independent non-executive chairman of Trillian Capital Partners, Tokyo Sexwale, has announced that Advocate Geoff Budlender has been appointed to lead an inquiry into the company.
The investigation will look into allegations that the company knew of the axing of former Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene two months before it happened and that he would be replaced with Des Van Rooyen.
Sexwale says Budlender is tasked with investigating whether members of the Gupta family owns any part of the company.
"[Trillian] has been called Gupta-linked. These days it's a swear word to say Gupta-linked. That's exactly what needs to be investigated openly...is there any link by any of the members of that family to this company, and if there is such a link, what is its nature and what is its currency," says Sexwale.
