The line carries about 88 kilovolts of electricity and can result in injuries or even death if it comes into contact with a person
Emergency spokesperson Nana Radebe says the fire has been contained.
"We are busy dumping down and we haven’t been counting but it looks like over 60 shacks that have been affected."
Radebe says reason for the collapse of the pylon will be investigated.
"After we're done with dumping down we'll do preliminary investigations into what caused the fire."
No casualty or fatalities have been reported.
