Shaka Sisulu: War room being used to tarnish my name

Shaka Sisulu has responded to allegations he spearheaded a covert black-ops operation for the ANC, to discredit the opposition during the local government elections.

In a scathing statement Sisulu says the civil suit by Sihle Bolani against the ANC and his alleged involvement in the saga is being used to tarnish his family name and the work he is doing for the ANC.

"As volunteers for the ANC, our role is to promote the values and virtues of the movement to potential voters; not to discredit the opposition. As volunteers we are not paid, all of us - hundreds of thousands of volunteers - participate for the love of the

ANC. This is something that the ANC has appreciated and taken great pride in," he says.

Sisulu says he is unapologetic about the contribution he is making to the ANC, and it is common knowledge that he has volunteered his time to the ANC for the past 18 years.

"To do the work of electioneering, we as volunteers use our own resources, and where these need to be supplemented we ask for donations and sponsorships from other ANC supporters. I have never witnessed or heard of any volunteers receiving an amount of R50 million or anything remotely close to that. This R 50 million figure that news reports have bandied about is clearly the figment of someone's imagination," he says.

He admits to have worked with Bolani, but says the work they did was not covert or meant to derail any of the opposition parties.
