Sharp hike in fuel prices

The Department of Energy says the increase in fuel, Road Accident Fund (RAF) levies and fuel transportation costs are some of the reasons behind the 72c increase in petrol.

Motorists are set for a tough April as petrol will increase by between 69 and 72 cents while diesel will see a hike of 65 cents per litre.

The Department of Energy's spokesperson, Robert Maake, attributed the increases to the hike in the RAF levies, fuel transportation costs and the Rand/US dollar exchange rate.

The increased fuel prices are set to kick in next Wednesday.
