Ntutukho Shoba appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court on Thursday morning.

He applied for bail for a second time, citing new evidence and defence team.

Shoba was arrested last month after he was fingered by convicted murder Muzikayise Malephane.

Malephane is doing 20 years after getting into a guilty plea with the state for murdering the 8 month pregnant Pule.

As part of his new evidence, Shoba - through his affidavit- told the court that his cell mate - John Muhabe - told him that his story sounded familiar.

“He later told me that there was someone who was arrested for the same story by the name of Muzikayise Malephane who one day revealed to him that the deceased by the name of Tshegofatsho Pule was his girlfriend.

“He further told me that Malephane told him that he killed his girlfriend during an argument after he picked her up from Florida.

“Muhabe further told me that this information of Malephane having a relationship with the deceased and having killed after an argument was revealed to other two detainees,” his new lawyer, Shaddy Sithole  told the court.

Shoba denied that he knew his information prior his first application.

Muhabe’s confirming affidavit was read out to the court by Sithole.

He said that him and Malephane were also cell mates and forged a friendship.

After the proceedings, Pule’s uncle said the new information “was a joke” and Shoba was trying to drag his neices name through the mud.

The state agreed that the information was new and allowed it into submission.

The matter has been remanded until 6 April for formal bail application.
